Jonas Gahr Støre earned his degree in political scienceat the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris in France in 1985 after attending the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy. Since 1989, he has held a number of senior posts with the Norwegian government. Mr. Støre is currently the Leader of the Labour Party and the Labour Party Parliamentary group.
From 1989 to 1998 he served as Diplomatic Advisor to the Prime Minister and from 1995 as Director General of the International Department. From 1998 to 2000, Støre was chief of staff at the World Health Organization (WHO). From 2000-2001 her served as State Secretary and Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg. From 2003 to 2005, he was secretary-general of the Norwegian Red Cross. From 2005-2012 he served as Norway’s Foreign Minister and from 2012 to 2013 as Minister of Health. He has been a member of Parliament since 2009. He is currently Member of Parliament from Oslo and member of the Standing Committee on Finance.
