Partnering for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14

The high-level United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development will be convened at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 5- 9th June 2017, coinciding with World Oceans Day, to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14. The Governments of Fiji and Sweden have the co-hosting responsibilities of the Conference.
The Conference aims to be the game changer that will reverse the decline in the health of our ocean for people, planet and prosperity. It will be solutions-focused with engagement from all.
FOOD FROM THE OCEAN - SIDE EVENT @ THE UN OCEAN CONFERENCE:
At the UN Ocean Conference NCE Seafood will be co-organizing an side-event together with The Norwegian Ministry of Trade & Fisheries, Greenland, Iceland, WHO, FAFO and UN. The thematic focus will be linking the role of sustainable use of the oceans to no poverty and zero hunger (SDG 1, 2 &14).
Realization of UN sustainable development goal number 14 is important in achiving goal number 1 and 2: no poverty and zero hunger. Food production has to increase to feed the worlds growing population. With scarcity of fresh water and land resources left, the oceans must play a bigger role in providing food in the future. Increased production and consumption of sustainable produced food from the ocean are desirable both from a nutritionally, ecologically and economically point of view.
We must highlight the oceans as a vital provider of nutritious food and livelihood, and make it clear to all that we must aim for sustainable management and keep our oceans renewable and clean.
