MBA students visit Austevoll
The Executive MBA in Sustainable Innovation in Global Seafood is designed for people working in the seafood industry or related industries, where the need for sustainable innovation is increasingly important to succeed in a highly competitive environment.
The last week of January the students from the MBA program enjoyed their first actual meeting. The students visited the vibrant fishing community of Austevoll.
Austevoll, an archipelago south of Bergen is renowned for strong tradition for fisheries and aquaculture, and a natural target for this first field trip. We were met by enthusiastic and sharing representatives from Austevoll Seafood where the CEO Arne Møgster took us on a journey through the companies exiting history. Austevoll Seafood is an international giant in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
At Lerøy Vest/Sjøtroll – a subsidiary of Austevoll Seafood, Nina Møgster, herself a student at the program told us about the inner workings and the history of a pure aquaculture company.
Last, but not least Siv Østervold CEO at Hordafor gave us an engaged presentation of Hordafor, the history and vision. During the afternoon, we enjoyed the company of the natural born historian and storyteller Inge Halstensen. Mr Halstensen spoke of the newer history of Austevoll and drew one conclusion – there may be a short way from rags to riches, however the way from riches to rags may be even shorter. A message echoed in the presentations from all the other presenters.
